Watchers

Finished my commission for :iconreddofnonnac: the other day which means I'm able to open up another commission slot. Really pleased with how it turned out, was a good commission to get started back on. Still just doing one at a time for the moment so that I can ease myself back into doing these whilst balancing family and work life.

If anyone's interested please get in touch through DA or email. Have a quick look at the Commission Rates deviation to see what I'm offering and we'll go from there.

Just a quick update to say that this has been taken by :iconjdm022: Cheers buddy!

All the best!

Sketchbook Heroes 2
In one of my earlier posts I mentioned that I've been following Matteo Scalera lately to see how he does things and this page (with the exception of top right) is the result. Spot the one that's obviously Hellboy!

Sketchbook Heroes
This page is based entirely on other comic artists work. Sometimes when you're struggling to get your mojo back it's quite an eye opener to breakdown how some of your artistic heroes do things and actually helps you get creative again. And quite often you'll find yourself changing them slightly anyway!

Sketchbook Fit Ladies 2
More from the sketchbook. This page is predominantly based on other artists work with only a couple from my brain. Been checking a lot of other artists out lately. Just found Black Science by Image Comics with the art drawn by Matteo Scalera which is freaking awesome.

Sketchbook Fit Ladies
Busy working on my latest commission so until I finish that I thought I'd put up some more sketchbook practice/warmup sketches. This page is a whole mix bag! Most of it is from reference pics but some are from looking at other comic artists and some from the old grey cells themselves!

Hey Rob!

I just found your art and i really love the amount of figure studies you do.

I was wondering though if you mind if i download some of these and collate them into a large sheet.
My group has a convention coming up where we do commissions on the floor for people, and i've been wanting to piece together a reference board with different poses, hands and anatomical perspectives for our artists to have on hand if they're unsure about the proper proportions, or how to draw a particular pose.
We're a small art community of friends that just love art, but not all of us are at the same level, which is why i wanted to have a reference board, for those who aren't as adept as others.
The bits i was hoping to use were :
Sketchbook arms and Hands
Sketchbook Studies: Hands
All-arm Clock
Sketchbook figure studies 1

I'd love to have your permission to use them

Thanks!

Aaron

Hi Rob. Your work is and has remained an inspiration over the years. I read somewhere that you were considering making a book on muscle anatomy. Is it finished and if so where can I buy it? Also are you opposed to making critiques on other aspiring artist works?

Hello buddy, thanks for the kind comments, glad you like what you see. I would very much love to do a book on muscle and comic book anatomy, it's just finding the time. I work a typical 9:00 - 5.30 and all my illustration stuff is done in my spare time. I also have a family so spare time is even sparer! :D BUT, it is definitely a project I'm working on and when it's done you shall definitely know about it!

In the meantime, I'd definitely recommend 'copying' some of your favourite comic artists as practice. When I say copying I don't mean exactly like for like. What I like to do is try and break down the figure and see/learn how they've done it. I find it really helps with things like foreshortening.

I'm happy to critique work mate, no problem. I checked out your gallery and your memorised figure sketch is really good. Especially for a pose that's so tricky!

Thanks again for the kind comment, cheers! :thanks:
