Hey folks! Well it's taken some time but I've finally completed a prototype version of my new art book 'Guilty Pleasures'. I've added a deviation to my page with a few pictures from it just to give you an idea of what it's like. The book basically works in two halves. The first half is collection of the work that I've completed over the last five years. There's very little descriptive text, mostly titles of the work and which medium it was done in and whether it was a commission etc. The second half of the book is a collection of the pages from my sketchbooks, where I've practiced all my anatomy drawings. There are a few pages I've omitted because they were based on other artists and some that I've not included which have been commissions. However, to compensate for that I've added a few pages that are brand new that I haven't submitted to the internet yet.

The good news is that it's pretty much done and designed. The bad news is that I now need to get it produced. Any ideas?

I was thinking about crowdfunding like Kickstarter or Patereon but not done this before. Has anyone had any experience with these? And if so, are they generally successful or a waste of time?

Look forward to hearing from you.

Love

So here it is. Guilty Pleasures. Sketchbook number 2. Contains mostly stuff from deviantArt and Instagram but some new stuff as well. Have a look at the pics and let me know if I'm headed in the right direction with this prototype.

Hey folks. I'm busy putting together a new art book which collects all the stuff that I've been doing over the last 5 years.
I want it to be different to my Delicious Commishes Sketchbook that I did back in 2012. That was my first foray into bookmaking and whilst it was fun and successful I can't help but think I waffled on too much and didn't include enough art. So let me tell you what I have planned for this one and then hopefully you guys will chime in and tell me the sort of things that you would like to see and that would interest you in buying an artbook.

• The first half of the book will be finished art, mostly from DA but a few other things too. There will be a few preliminary sketches but not many. It will also include a few odds and ends taken from sketch sessions with my friends.

*Did people like the background 'waffle' in the previous sketchbook?
*Or do people prefer to see just pages of art, minimal to no text?
*Would you like to see preliminary work and process sketches?

• The second half of the book will be anatomy studies taken from my sketchbook pages. I think this is the part that will interest most people as I've had a lot of requests to do something like this sooo....

    * How would you like to see it? Would you be happy with rough, direct scans such as the ones I submit to deviantArt?
Or would people like to see them neatened up, maybe inked?
    * Would you prefer them to be organised? ie. by body part or style, i.e foreshortened etc?

Please bear in mind that this is NOT going to be a 'how to' guide, just a collection of reference material for you budding artists out there. However, I'd like to tailor it to what people find most engaging and useful so please feel free to drop me any comments and suggestions as to what you might like to see.

Thanks very much for you time everybody. Look forward to hearing from you.

Peace, love and respect.

Busy putting together my 2nd Sketchbook. First half finished art and prelims; second half ALL anatomy studies. Hope it sounds cool to you guys?
Iron Man Inks
And last but not least is Iron Man. Like I said, I've been really struggling lately to be pleased with what I'm doing and it really knocks your confidence. However, this one I'm really pleased with as I've never drawn Iron Man before and this was pretty quick for me too.

Hey Rob!

I just found your art and i really love the amount of figure studies you do.

I was wondering though if you mind if i download some of these and collate them into a large sheet.
My group has a convention coming up where we do commissions on the floor for people, and i've been wanting to piece together a reference board with different poses, hands and anatomical perspectives for our artists to have on hand if they're unsure about the proper proportions, or how to draw a particular pose.
We're a small art community of friends that just love art, but not all of us are at the same level, which is why i wanted to have a reference board, for those who aren't as adept as others.
The bits i was hoping to use were :
Sketchbook arms and Hands
Sketchbook Studies: Hands
All-arm Clock
Sketchbook figure studies 1

I'd love to have your permission to use them

Thanks!

Aaron

Hi Rob. Your work is and has remained an inspiration over the years. I read somewhere that you were considering making a book on muscle anatomy. Is it finished and if so where can I buy it? Also are you opposed to making critiques on other aspiring artist works?

Hello buddy, thanks for the kind comments, glad you like what you see. I would very much love to do a book on muscle and comic book anatomy, it's just finding the time. I work a typical 9:00 - 5.30 and all my illustration stuff is done in my spare time. I also have a family so spare time is even sparer! :D BUT, it is definitely a project I'm working on and when it's done you shall definitely know about it!

In the meantime, I'd definitely recommend 'copying' some of your favourite comic artists as practice. When I say copying I don't mean exactly like for like. What I like to do is try and break down the figure and see/learn how they've done it. I find it really helps with things like foreshortening.

I'm happy to critique work mate, no problem. I checked out your gallery and your memorised figure sketch is really good. Especially for a pose that's so tricky!

Thanks again for the kind comment, cheers! :thanks:
