Thanks man, sorry it's taken me so long to get back to this message! Yeah, I'm really hyped about getting better at foreshortening and anatomy etc and especially being able to draw it off the cuff, so lots of practice going in! :D

Hey dude, thanks for the kind comments. Hope you're good?

Yeah, I wanna make sure that I've raised my game as best as possible when I come to pencilling those Contract pages! I'm currently working on another job at the mo and have spent all day near enough getting the damn foreshortening right, so I think the phrase ' practice makes perfect' is very apt for me! :D

Did you get those Jessie heads I sent to your email address btw?

Yeah man your doing some great stuff. I'm a strong believer in "muscle memory" The more you draw it the more naturally it comes. Its like your own body gets to "know" how to draw so well that drawing badly is difficult LOL.

I did get the Jessie heads I was just looking them over and was gonna give a response via email. :)

Excellente'
Other than photos and drawing from life is there a particular book on anatomy that you'd recommend to a budding (or 40 year old) artist?

Thanks for the kind comments man, very kind. Y'know sadly, I've never found a book that I could say really teaches anatomy or foreshortening very well, which is kinda why I'm going about it my own way. I really got into Invincible about 2 or 3 years ago and thought that Ryan Ottley's artwork was awesome and I suppose really started studying his artwork after that. I'm sure there must be good anatomical guides out there but they must be few and far between. Also, I've never found anything that really explains too much on the comic art front either as I guess that not many comic artists wanna give away their trade secrets. I've got the classic 'How to draw comics the Marvel way' and a book by Christopher Hart called 'Cutting Edge Comics' but other than that, most of my stuff is from reference.

These are great, not only because they are so well executed, but because they prove that it takes lots of hard work to be a good artist, not just raw talent.

Thanks man, that's very kind. Yeah, I kinda get frustrated when people say they can't draw or that it's just a talent some people have. I think that something in a person's character makes them gravitate towards art because they enjoy it and therefore, the more time they spend doing something they enjoy the better and more familiar they'll get at it. So I certainly agree with you that practice makes perfect. :D
